iPhones don’t let websites save videos straight into the Photos app. Instead, Safari saves downloads to the Files app first, and from there it takes two taps to move a video into Photos. Once you have done it once, it takes about 20 seconds. Here is the whole process, step by step.
What you need
An iPhone or iPad with iOS 13 or later (anything from the last several years), Safari, and the TikTok app or tiktok.com. No extra apps.
Step 1: Copy the TikTok link
- Open the video in the TikTok app.
- Tap the Share arrow on the right side of the screen.
- Tap Copy link in the bottom row. You will see a short “Copied” confirmation.
Step 2: Download it with Tik4DL
- Open Safari and go to tik4dl.com.
- Tap the yellow Paste button. iOS may ask “Allow Paste?”. Tap Allow Paste. Tik4DL starts fetching right away.
- Tap Download HD (or Download MP4).
- Safari asks whether you want to download the file. Tap Download. A small blue arrow appears in the address bar while it downloads.
Step 3: Move the video to Photos
- Tap the download arrow in Safari’s address bar, then tap the file. Or open the Files app → Browse → Downloads.
- Tap the video to open it.
- Tap the Share button (square with an arrow) in the bottom-left corner.
- Tap Save Video. The video is now in your Photos app, in Recents.
Tip: skip a step next time
Install Tik4DL on your home screen from the App page. It opens full screen like a regular app, so you skip typing the address.
Saving TikTok sounds and photos on iPhone
MP3 sounds also go to Files → Downloads. You can play them there, or tap Share to send them to an app such as GarageBand. iPhones can’t save MP3s to the Music app directly. See TikTok to MP3 for details.
Photo slideshows: for single images, you can also long-press the preview in Tik4DL and choose Save to Photos (or Add to Photos), which skips the Files app entirely.
Troubleshooting on iPhone
The video starts playing instead of downloading
Safari sometimes opens MP4 files in a player. Go back, long-press the download button in Tik4DL and choose Download Linked File.
I can’t find the Downloads folder
In Files, tap Browse twice to see Locations. Downloads lives in On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, depending on your settings (Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads).
The Paste button does nothing
You probably tapped “Don’t Allow” when iOS asked. Long-press the input box and choose Paste instead. It works the same.
Using Chrome on iPhone?
It works too. Chrome saves to Files → On My iPhone → Chrome. Open the video there and use Share → Save Video.

Make the Files app easier to reach
If you save TikToks often, two small changes save time:
- Change where Safari saves files. Go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads and choose On My iPhone. Files then appear instantly, without waiting for iCloud to sync.
- Add Downloads to Favorites. In the Files app, long-press the Downloads folder and choose Favorite. It then shows up at the top of the Browse tab.
Saving several videos to Photos at once
You don’t need to move videos one by one. In Files → Downloads, tap the ⋯ button → Select, tick every video you want, then tap Share → Save Videos. They all land in Photos together. Afterwards you can delete them from Downloads to free up space.
iPad tips
On iPad everything works the same, with one bonus: you can open TikTok and Safari side by side with Split View, copy the link on one side and paste it on the other. Drag-and-drop also works: drag a finished download from Safari’s downloads list straight into the Photos app.
Common questions
Do I need a Shortcut or a jailbreak?
No. Safari has had a built-in download manager since iOS 13, which is all Tik4DL needs. Avoid profiles or apps that ask for extra permissions to “download TikToks”.
Why is the video saved as a file and not straight to Photos?
That’s an iOS rule for all websites, not something Tik4DL can change. The two-tap move to Photos is the fastest route Apple allows.
Can I save the sound as a ringtone?
Yes, with GarageBand: download the MP3, open it in GarageBand, trim it to under 30 seconds, then use Share → Ringtone. Only do this with sounds you’re allowed to use.
Copy the link, paste it into Tik4DL, pick your format.
