Most download problems have simple causes. Work through these fixes in order: the first four solve the vast majority of cases.
1. Check that the link is complete
Make sure you used Share → Copy link and that what you pasted contains tiktok.com. Partial links, links to the TikTok home page, or links copied from a search result page won’t work. See how to copy a TikTok link.
2. Make sure the post is public
Private accounts, friends-only videos and deleted posts can’t be downloaded. A quick test: open the link in a private/incognito browser window where you are logged out of TikTok. If you can’t watch it there, no downloader can fetch it.
3. Wait a minute and try again
TikTok sometimes slows down requests during busy periods, and Tik4DL limits very rapid bursts to keep the service fair. If you see “Too many requests” or a temporary error, wait 30 to 60 seconds and try again.
4. Get a fresh download link
Download buttons are valid for about two hours. If you left the tab open and come back later, you may see “This download link has expired”. Paste the TikTok link again to get new buttons.
5. The video plays instead of downloading
Some browsers open MP4 files in a player. Go back and:
- Mobile: long-press the download button → Download link (Android) or Download Linked File (iPhone).
- Desktop: right-click → Save link as… or Download Linked File.
6. You can’t find the downloaded file
Downloads go to your browser’s download folder, not straight into the gallery. On iPhone that’s Files → Downloads; on Android, the Download album in your gallery; on a computer, the Downloads folder. Our iPhone and Android guides have exact paths.
7. “Download all images” only saved one photo
Your browser blocked multiple downloads. Look for a prompt or icon in the address bar and choose Allow, then try again. Or download images one at a time.
8. Region-locked or age-restricted videos
Some videos are only available in certain countries or require age verification. These may fail to load. There’s no workaround that we can offer for them.
9. Turn off content blockers for Tik4DL
Aggressive ad blockers or privacy extensions sometimes block the request that fetches the video. If the Download button does nothing at all, try disabling them for tik4dl.com or test in a private window.
10. Update your browser
Tik4DL works in every modern browser. If you are on a very old version, especially an old Android WebView or iOS below 13, update your browser or system and try again.

Quick diagnosis
Match what you see with the most likely cause:
| What you see | Most likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “That doesn’t look like a TikTok link” | Incomplete or wrong link | Fix 1 |
| “We couldn’t find that TikTok” | Deleted or private post | Fix 2 |
| “Too many requests” / “busy right now” | Temporary limit | Fix 3 |
| “Error 404 Not Found” on the download | Expired button, or opened in another browser | Fix 4 |
| Video opens instead of saving | Browser plays MP4 inline | Fix 5 |
| Download finished but file is missing | Looking in the wrong place | Fix 6 |
Why download buttons only work in your browser
For safety, every download button is tied to the browser that created it and expires after a few hours. If you copy a download button’s address and open it in another app, another browser or on another device, you’ll get “Error 404 Not Found”. That’s intentional: it stops other sites from hotlinking files through Tik4DL. Just paste the TikTok link again on the device where you want the file.
Download managers and “open in app” browsers
Download manager apps and the built-in browsers inside apps like Instagram or Telegram sometimes handle downloads in a separate process, which counts as “another browser”. If a download fails inside an app, open Tik4DL in Chrome or Safari instead (look for Open in browser in the app’s ⋯ menu).
Copy the link, paste it into Tik4DL, pick your format.
